Location: Sydney, Australia | There is a Pacemaker 12 String for sale close to me. I've whacked in a bid and am leading as I write.
Before I bid any higher, can someone explain to me where these fit in the ovation hierarchy? i.e. is this better than, worse than, or just different to a Balladeer?
Also, do those cracks below the bridge look serious or superficial - the ad says they are just in the varnish. It's not too far from my place (leave it Muzz!) so I can inspect it before I hand over any cash and refuse to pay if the ad is deceptive. |

Location: Sydney, Australia | It seems to have been scalped as well. I've emailed the seller for better photos about that, seems a bizarre sort of accident to happen - maybe it upset some native Americans. |

My Pacemaker was listed deceptively also...
String height is always a concern with any 12 string. Also those cracks look Real.
My Pacemaker was listed as having finish cracks that turned-out to be real.
In my case, I sent mine to the factory for a neck reset and ended-up with a new top and bowl.
The factory neck reset was going to be cheaper than my local luthier, and the bowl/top just happened cuz they offed me a good deal. This is the finished product. More in my Members Gallery...
I said all that to say, even with the high action and the crack, that Pacemaker was quite loud and sounded quite nice. And it still does, but now it is a different guitar.
If you can go see it before you pay, you may find it sounds very nice. It's just alittle deformed! :p |

Fosters is ONLY currently being consumed in the USA and Britain.
Nobody down here drinks it any more. It's sooo 20th century. :rolleyes:

As OMA pointed out, but not mentioning the mutilation of the head, I get rather suspicious that the cracks he has mentioned go right through the face. If you take a ruler with you, measure the distance between the 12th fret and the string. |

Fine who cares anyway; so what does a case of beer go for down your way - point being that the guitar is probably worth 26 dollars if only for parts or to catch used motor oil in when you do an oil change.

The cracks are typical of the era. I'm pretty sure that they go right through the wood, but they seem stable. Someone has tried re-lacquering the top, did a fairly good job, it's only evident by a light 'run' just above the bridge.
The really good news is that there's absolutely no bellying on the top whatsoever.
The neck is straight (could do with ever such a slight tweak on the truss rod) there's sufficient break angle over the saddle if you need any more adjustment. (I doubt you will.) Action is impressive for a 12. I tried to measure it, but with my failing eyes and scratched reading glasses, I'd say 2mm @ 12th fret. I forgot to check the condition of the frets, but nothing stood out.
The headstock has been scalped for whatever reason, but once again, whoever did it did a good job. The gloss neck shows evidence of re-lacquering as well. Probably a consequence of the head-hunting. (If I HAD to own a broccoli Adamas, it would end up looking just like this one!)
Impossible to accurately gauge the sound. The pair of 'G' strings are missing and the rest were pretty dead. So I didn't 'play' it, as such.
Plugged it in and, what can I say? It works. Guitar-like sounds came out of the speaker and the volume control controlled the volume.
I enviously eyed the foil label, but it looked as if someone has mixed concrete in there. (Visible in the photos in the auction.)
I also wanted to take the case home. I want a brown case so bad. The straps that hold the lid up had come loose and there is damage to the head of the case, evident in the photos.
If the case and foil label were perfect, I COULD be tempted if the price didn't get silly.
Hopefully, that's a fair review. The auction was an accurate description.
