Stephen, I wonder if they could put a new top on that? With the wood binding (walnut I believe) it probably would break the bank to resore as new. Where you thinking the sunburst finish to help cover the existing cracks? On the other hand ... you COULD have them replace the bowl and top with an Adamas textured for cheaper than the cost of repairing what you have. Have them sand and refinish the headstock for a little more and put an Adamas logo on it, and you got an Adamas II.

Um, that would mean he paid $150 for a 1537 neck that needs refinishing...

that's the million dollar question. Right now, like a turd floating on the river....but I only have 5 strings on it that have to be many years old.

With T-Day coming tomorrow and the better half workin my ass off with honey-do's before her family shows up, it will probably be next week before I can actually sit down and clean her up and see what magic can transpire.

I think if the crack is filled with glue already, a resand may not be possible. There is not much to sand remember. If you need a replacement top, you get a new bowl as well (think $650 or so). so then it boils down to A. you bought a neck assembly (with walnut fretboard) for $150 and another $650 + for rest of guitar, or B. you just play it as is. I am in the same boat with the beater 1537 I bought awhile ago. It came with cracks in bowl as well as top. It plays great, looks like hell. But would it still sound like a 1537 with a new bowl assembly, (Gs bowl, new spruce top, etc)? that is the question. For now I am just keeping mine until after the holidays. Although I did take out the electronics to make it an acoustic only. brown duct tape over the holes seems to work great. peace

You couldn't mate a GS bowl to the older neck.
