I really liked this model, but the string spacing and neck profile do not work for me. It has great tone unplugged, and I never really had a chance to plug it in. I guess that is the big part of the Ovation equation I am missing out on. Please do not crucify me................

I also like the O Acoustic's too, but that is what made me a fan in the first place. I myself am not a Taylor fan. I forget what I played, but the street price was $3000, and compared to the $1800 Martin D-18V on the other side of the room, that thing was worth $800. BTW, I played an HD-28VE with the new Elipse mic/preamp system, plugged and unplugged, and it sounded fantastic, though of course I still preferred my D-18. I think I might spend the $220 and have it installed on my D-18.

I have and enjoy a 74 Custom Balladeer and an 03 Elite LX. Both are lovely and enjoyable to play. They are very different in sound and feel. There really isn't an "Ovation Sound" that can be represented by one instrument. I have played 3 of the 05 Collectors and my take on them was that it was a single hole LX model and since I had a multi-hole LX six string already I didn't need to get this one. I do like the subdued elegence(sp) of the rosette. The new bowl was nice. Then there are the solids... You must wrap your hands around a Viper and a Deacon to really get to know the Family!

The important thing is that you tried something new. If it wasn't for you, well, you have to go with whats right for you. Nobody here is going to be upset. On the contrary, I, for one, am glad you at least tried an Ovation with an open mind. I wish you well in finding the guitar that's right for you.

Joined: January 2004 Posts: 123 Location: Massachusetts | I bought Jim's 05 and it arrived safe and sound and mint as described. THANKS JIM!!! I returned one I bought at GC for full price to get this. This particular 05 does seem like a very very narrow neck. My fingers are touching adjacent strings which I don't think I felt before and the neck is not as fat as the 05 I returned. Other than that it is still a great guitar. I hope I too can get used to this profile. I am used to my S771 fat v neck which is the ulitmate neck. I am disliking my Gibson because it is wide and shallow. This 05 is shallow and narrow. AAAAARGH. I'll just play it. Still a great guitar.
