My son is a bass player, and just fell into a huge cabinet. A good friend of mine gave him an old Sunn 215B cab that's been refitted with two 15" Yamaha speakers (no horns). One of the inputs has been taken out, and both speakers run from the one that's left. It's labeled 4 Ohm, so I guess that's what it is. My friend said he was sure a 200 watt amp would be plenty to drive it.

My son found a 200W (at 4 ohm) Hartke head on the net for $200. He JUST blew his grass-cuttin' money on a new bass processor, so he's a little time away from pulling the trigger.

I was hoping y'all could tell me if we are on track as far as wattage AND if anyone has a GREAT deal on a head for this monster, that needs a loving home... his B-day is coming up in a couple months, and I might get it for him. Of course, I might be persuaded to swap some artwork of you and your O, like Ol' Hizzoner here:

Thanks, Jas

I hope he's ok. Thank goodness it didn't have horns!

Is he any relation to Alpep?

The speakers have been replaced in the last few years. They have a big white Yamaha logo on the front. Do I need to open it up and look at the setup and speakers?

I have a Peavey Centurion Mk. III head that I'd be willing to wheel and deal on (depending on your definition of GREAT deal); drop me a note (Cb doesn't count)

Check down in the for sale topics (10-12 down). I have a GK400 RBIII for sale at what I consider a good price.

I saw that, Stephen. Since we're not at the buying-a-nice-amp stage right now, I was looking for the "I'm looking to unload my dinosaur" kind of deal. Like one that's on life support. I'm not ruling out one like yours, which looks like a swell price. But right now I'm talking low, Crust, looooooooooooooow.

I actually played with a group years ago that used this same cab - the same one - with the original tube head. The head up and died... it up and died. After 20 years, I still grieve.

if the speakers are 8 ohms they need to be in parralel to get 4 ohm
if they are 4 ohms then you can only get 2 or 8
if they are 16 you can get 32 or 8
never mind

Captain, I am known for my excellent payment plans which several OFC members have taken advantage of.

The Peavey is an older (80s?) solid-state bass head. Two channels with parametric EQ on one (I guess that's what they call it) and B-M-T on the other. There's a footswitch, a compressor/limiter, blah blah blah. Two speaker outs. It says it's 130W at 4 ohms. I ran it through a custom cab with a 15" EV (200W+ rated) and it can get loud. Really, really loud. Pushing the air out of your lungs if you stand too close loud. No rips or tears in the black tolex-y stuff, just a little dust down in the cracks.

The only problem I see is that it's heavy. So, shipping is probably going to be un-cheap. I'll weigh it and get you an estimate if you tell me where 'bouts in GA you are.
