Does anyone play through one of these (guitar and vocals) and what's the verdict? Before you make a bunch of more expensive suggestions, I know the Bose L1 or Fishman would be better...I'm just asking about the Passport.

Is it for playing outside the home or for your personal enjoyment?

What's the budget?

The Fender Acoustasonic IISFX is a really nice amp and so are the Genz Benz Compak 300 series.

I looked at the Passport when I was shopping for a simple PA system for my family/garage band but ended up with a similarly priced Phonic model. I heard a guy play a really nice Ovation through a Passport and it sounded really dead. But it might have been the acoustics in the basketball gymnasium too. The Phonic has 2 super high-z inputs so you can plug guitars straight in. It's not high fidelity by any means but it's fun and you can hear the vocals over the drum now. Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes not. As for guitar sounds, it's not bad with the acoustic but you'll want to hang on to the electric amp.

I was looking at a Passport a while back and had some experience with a unit we used with an electric keyboard for backstage warm-up of a large children's chorus. I wasn't impressed, so I searched around on the Internet and ended up buying a Fender SR6300P, a pair of Fender 1275 speaker enclosures, stands, the works. Its a heavy system from the 80's or 90's, but its rugged, bullet proof, and works great for my courtyard play-alongs.

I should have mentioned....I already have an Ultrasound Acoustic amp. I just want to know from people that use the Passport or have used it, how did you like it for small, intimate settings...clean, clear, good for acoustics, etc?

Used them in a couple different venues/bars. Not a fan but they're easy to pack around.

I have used Fender passports the PD 250 and now the PD500 as a portable sound system for my wifes' puppet team for about 8 years. We use it for several head mics and for pre-recorded music. They have been completely dependable and rugged. they are easy to transport but can be pretty heavy especially the 500. There is a noticeable improvement in the sound quality the PD version speakers. Also the 500 is capable of filling a much larger venue with sound. I have been successful in venues of up to 1000.
The sound quality is good but not great. The base is only average and there is nothing that I have been able to do that can change that. It has served our purposes very well even travelling to Ireland for performances there( the voltage is switchable from 120-240). You can also run them from a battery pack although I have never done that.

Thanks for the insight, Steve. I was hoping to find someone that played guitar and sang through one on a regular basis though.

It's a lot like picking the right RV or Boat. How do get the most out of it and have less to pack or haul!

I bought a 30 Watt powered Monitor and just jack in the mixer. I have seen a lot of the Fender PPs used in a lot of circumstances, most as a size compromise.

Easy to use, good sound quality.
No feed back problems.

Wow...when it "severs" you, does it help you hit those high notes?

Thanks for the info.

A sort of cut-off point.
