I have a c/balladeer and case and a new quite thick cushioned strap , but there ain,t enough room in the case [I think] to store it , without damaging the top. What do others do with their straps ,thankyou.

Get a backpack and keep the strap, chords, extra strings, capo, towel, song book, baby powder, box of picks, and whatever else you need.

Beal's idea is obviosly the smartest, but I keep the Original late 1968 funky colored strap for my Dad's 68 DB in the case, tucked around the ass of the bowl but in such a way that it can't mar the shiney bowl.

Strap I had was thin enough to fit into that little compartment inside the case along with a few ods and ends like capo, picks, strings, nail clippers etc.

That was the problem with those early cases, not much room. Little stuff will fit. I just went with the "gig bag" and have all that stuff in it as well as a condenser mic and a book light and a couple of tools for tweeking and changing strings. The rule is never take any of this stuff out at the house, that way you don't have to think going out the door and you never get "suprised" at a gig.

Really great idea Beal. I bet you could also fit one of those small A frame stands in a pack as well.

I find that the combination of the contour bowl and the cut-away allows me plenty of room to store the strap under the guitar.

Yeah you'll need a regualar thickness strap of soft leather to fold it up under the headstock.I use the padded straps for the electrics as they are much heavier after a while.

I have not had this problem in a long time with the acoustics as all my gigging guitars are cutaway's now, so I have just enough space to roll my strap up and tuck the strap lock inside the center of the roll and tuck it in the crook of the cutaway. I roll my 25' Whirlwind up and put that under the headstock and my tuner, capo, picks, cough drops and an extra pack of strings fit in the storage compartment. This way I have a complete unit all in one.
My carry bag is full of exrta stuff now like Lead cords, 4 way plug, exra instrument cords, extra strings, batteries, microphones, mic cables. etc. I also have grown into two additional bags for the band stuff as well.
I wish I could find an easier way to keep them all seperated. I do fairly well as I pack carefully but there ain't nothing like being in a hurry and grabbing the wrong cord and you have a tangle that takes 20 minutes to roll everything all back into the nice bag fitting size.
Anyway,, welcome to the mother of inventions lessons in guitar ownership and regular travel and constant use. You'll find your own way of doing things soon enough....

I remember the days when all I worried about was if I wanted to hang them or keep them in the cases.

I leave the strap attached to the button on the butt of the guitar and lay it over the guitar and neck, folding it over and under the headstock. No problems so far.....

Most of my guitars are cutaways. I roll my strap up and tuck it into the empty space where the cutaway isn't.

Gig bag +1. For about the past year, I have been using an old soft-sided brief bag purchased from Lands End about 30 years ago. It can't be destroyed. Because I use only two cases for an assortment of guitars, its easier to keep the straps in one gig bag than keep moving them in and out of carrying cases.

Gig bag +2

I use an old leather (briefcase?) bag with a shoulder strap that I used to carry my work back and forth from the office. It is sort of a messenger type with a flap and holds a ton of stuff in a bunch of little pouches and zippered areas.

It's old, soft, and tough, so I don't worry about wear marks and it will probably last as long as I need it to.

I got one of the new ultra lite Ovation cases which has LOTS of room inside the storage compartment PLUS 3 large zipper compartments on the outside. I carry an XLR cable, 1/4" cable, thick, wide strap, lead sheets...everything right there in the case.

Here:http://cgi.ebay.com/Ovation-Zero-Gravity-Foam-Core-Acoustic-Case-Shallow_W0QQitemZ360175629216QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item53dc23f3a0#ht_1022wt_941

I know this is for a shallow bowl, but deep ones are available also.

use 25 pound monofiliment fishing line , it fits anywhere and wont break on you or take up any space in your case.GWB
