Location: Upper Holland, PA | I am looking for an inexpensive, yet decent playing, guitar to keep in my office. I have no experience with Ovation guitars at all and am wondering how the low-end Ovations compare to low end Epiphones, etc. Any thoughts?

Location: Ohio | You will hear a LOT of opinions, but I have a Celebrity Dlx RBBY. Quilted Maple top(laminated) and for the price, not bacd. At leas in MY mind.... But what do I know........

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | If I was considering a "cheap" guitar, I would probably look for a Celebrity Deluxe. They've made some very nice looking and playing entry-level instruments ...
BUT ... I think the same money could be better spent on a good old used Balladeer or Legend. They're classics and are a much higher quality instrument. |

Location: Vernon CT | Not sure what you mean by inexpensive as everyones "thoughts" are different, BUT, if you are thinking in the $350-500.00 range there are/have been a bunch of used USA made Legends & Elites on the F/S section here, C.L., Ebay and I bet if you contacted Alpep. He may have something for you.

So I would tell you that you that a $300 Ovation is better than a $300 Epiphone.
But like others have said, if you are buying used you may find a used USA Ovation for the price of an import.
Quick comparison of my own purchases...
I bought a Celebrity CK047-FKOA with a Road Runner Case for $311...
I also bought a Ovation Elite 6778LX with an Ovation case for $410...
The 6778LX was a better deal, but the Celebrity Koa sounds nice for what it is.
I recently bought a nice 1111 Balladeer for $214 (no case) and a 2006 1778T for $395 (also no case).
So it depends on what you are looking for.

Location: nashville | +1 on a Balladeer. Paid 240.00 for mine w/ case. I have a Martin HD-28 which I love but I dont think you can hear $1500.00 difference.
but you may have to look a while to find one close. I would be hard pressed to by any acoustic w/out hearing/seeing it first but the USA made O's will have a more consistant sound than anything else in that price range. If you pick one up from the regualars here they have a reputation to maintain.
If you never held an O you need to. The round back is not to everyones liking if it was their would be 3 or 4 times more of them sold they are very good sounding git's |

I'm guessing the real question is - What is the best guitar you can buy for a couple hundred bucks that would lend itself nicely to being kept in your office.
Personally I would buy a Taylor Big Baby. It plays well, sounds nice, looks good. People will say "Oooo you have a Taylor". If if it gets trashed or stolen who cares? |

I liked the Taylor Baby but it is a little smaller with a lower volume. However, that might work in an office setting and you save some $'s over the Big Baby.
I do see Ovations for $200 - $400 relatively often but their condition varies greatly. |

I have never bought a low-end Epiphone even though I looked at them when shopping around. I just think the Ovations are a better quality instrument. We have other fine guitars, but I love my Celebrity, and it is not a $1000+ guitar. |
