Hello,

can anyone here compare the new Korean-made Standard Elite with the very similar-priced Celebrity CSE-44 or deluxe-series?

I could play and hear a Korean-made Standard Elite and I was very worried after playing it...!

Reasons: It sounded like you´re playing a little traveller guitar - no volume, no basses only trebles it sounded a bit "covered" as you place a towel over the soundholes... Sorry, but I don´t know to describe it in a better way...

So I want to know, if the CSE-44 for a similar price is "better-sounding" with more volume and tone - more matured?
Or is the top of the Korean-made Elites matured not as long as the USA-Standard Elite, so that it may take more time for building an expressive tone out of the soundholes...

Or is the scalloped bracing the reason for the more quiet tone out of it...? Is the Quintad-bracing better...?

What do you personally think of the new Standard Elite made in Korea?

My problem is, that I want an Ovation, which is similar or close to a normal dreadnought in volume and output, so that it could stand or beat in an unplugged round. Thank you for your answers and tips!

Best regards from Germany

As Old Man Arthur explained when I decided to buy a 12 string Celebrity CSE-445 RRB instead of other Korean-made 12 strings with seemingly "better" specifications, the huge sound difference of the CSE-445 RRB most likely stems from the Quintad-bracing, which seems to deliver better sound than the new scalloped bracing. I guess the CSE-44 must be the 6-string version of my CSE-445 RBB.

Trust your ears is what I would recommend...

Good luck,

Chris

Thank you - but the problem is, that my local dealer doesn´t have any of the CSE-series to compare...

So I want to get any information about the guitars in that price range...

Have a great day,
Chris

Did you play the shallow bowl or the mid depth bowl? Do you know the model number that you played? The shallow bowl does not have nearly as full of a sound as the other bowls. If you can find a deep contour bowl, that would be your best bet for volume and fullness. The mid bowl is comparable to a standard wood guitar, but the deep contour will add a bit more.

Hi again - May I ask where about you live in Germany? Musik Schmidt in Frankfurt has CSE´s... Also Thomann has them... Thomann is situated somewhere near Bamberg...

Have a great day too realcop :)

Hello FlySig,

I played the new Standard Elite with the deep contour bowl and was very disappointed about the volume and power out of such a big bowl...!!!

In terms of sound it could have really been a mid-depth-bowl...!

Perhaps the Standard Balladeer is much louder than the Elite, but I didn´t test a Balladeer...

That's a surprise to hear that the deep contour sounded so poor.

Like Chris said - go to Thomann.

I never played an Elite that sounded as good as a Legend. Wouldn't begin to know how to describe the difference or what it is I love about the sound of a Legend.
Trying to describe to a stranger what two guitars made by the same manufacturer sound like is impossible.

Yes - I was surprised too...

First I took the guitar out of the package and played it, it was o.k.

But then I played it with a pick and strummed, I thought, the volume didn´t increase that much more and the bass was absent, too...

The surprising was even greater, when I picked the dreadnought of a friend - a very good copy of a SEAGULL (Baton Rouge LMC CE) and my disappointing was perfect...

I don´t think that only this guitar had a "problem", because I ordered the same guitar again over a big shop...

When that guitar arrived in the shop, it began to come more difficult...
The seller wasn´t able to check the string height in a comfortable way: if you played with your tips calmly it was o.k., but if you began to strum even more higher up the fingerboard, the strings hung on the frets and sounded awful...!
In the end, the seller had to ship it back to the FENDER dealer where it came from.

And I think about buying a normal dreadnought for my unplugged preferences and having a fat tone with enough volume for half the price...

You really need to come to SoCal and play both my 87C and my rebuilt Legend. Love to get your feedback.....

I had been to THOMANN two times and the only Ovation I would prefer because of its relatively lound and full sound, had been the 2078TX...

But the look and feeling wasn´t that, what I would prefer, when choosing any acoustic guitar...

The eyes should be pleased, too...

...

I was going to say the same thing about my Cedar Top Elite ... It has a HUGE sound with the deep bowl. My Custom Legend sounds great also, but not nearly as loud.

Two things about Legends vs. Elites. First, Legends project sound more at the player than do Elites. I don't know why, it's just the way it is.

Second, the Elites have a more even sound bass to treble. The Legends have less midrange. To some, it's more appealing.

For me, it depends on my mood.....
