I studied years ago with one of Jim Hall's proteges, David Bradley (Berklee grad). He taught me to read a lead sheet, analyze the form etc.

Does anyone out there use the "Real Book" on a regular basis? It's been a Breklee Bible of sorts!

Sad to say, no. I've never, to my regret, studied anything in music. However, judging from your playing, Greg, you could write the book now! And THAT's a music book I'd be SURE to read!

I have several copies of the real book

I go through it and mess around from time to time.

regular user well no. casual user yes. wish I could play all the stuff in there.

great tool for expanding chord knowledge and soloing.

After Christmas dinner I dug an old play-along CD I forgot I had (Abersold series). Good old Joe Pass got me going with this beautiful TUNE. Played it all eve with just the bass track. Man! The song cycles through all TWELVE roots and you wouldn't even know it. "Bird of Paradise" indeed!

I guess the "Real" question is "what tunes do you find yourself pulling out of the 'Real Book'?"

Another example that was very useful for me is "Spain" (C. Corea): it even has the chords and melody for the introduction!

hey Al, that´s four out of five! I also play these tunes out of my Real Book, except Peaches and Regalia.

It is a very good reference book to have. Many many good songs in there.

Has anybody tried the whole package with the songs as well as the book from Real Book Software?

http://www.realbooksoftware.com/

Looks like a decent deal if the quality of the songs is decent--and if the transcriptions are correct.
