Just got her back from the local shop for a setup and nice clean job. Electronics work - now that I have a new battery - but they short out on 3 of the strings similar to another post regarding 1651's and their electronics. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with my eBay purchase. The top has some really cool looking grain patterns, and it doesn't sound to bad either. The gouge out of the headstock doesn't really bother me.

What would be my best route if I decide to ship this to Ovation to have them do some repairs? I have looked a little on the website and was thinking of the email option.

Oh, and based on the serial number, this is an '81. And it is missing the volume/tone knob, but both metal pieces do turn. So I can at least guestimate.

did they make a stereo 1651?

does the guitar have 2 output jacks?

are the strings that are not signaling alternate as in every other string? and possibly a stereo opp installed when repaired by someone by mistake? instead of a standard?

or maybe a stereo preamp is in it?

or maybe it's just a plum wore out pickup... anyway, unplugged I'm sure it sounds wonderful, and good luck in getting the pickup/preamp/wiring sorted out. The factory can hook you up with any of the above you might need, and is usually a more-than-fair price for the components.

It does have stereo and mono outputs. I either get sound from E, D, and B or A, G, and e depending on which one I plug into. I don't know alot about wiring so I can't tell if anything has been done to the outputs or not. I'm sure I'll eventually just send it in to have it figured out.

I just revived an ad I placed a year ago for a 1651. I got cold feet back then, but am now ready to sell it again. It is in the Classified section. Pictures available.
