The OP-Pro preamp in my 1778TX is connected to the can by a piece of "fishing line."
Is this a new feature? And does one merely cut the line when changing preamps, or is there a way to disconnect the line without cutting it?

I removed mine from an iDea preamp intact... But I had the can in my hand.
Also, the one that was on my iDea was an elastic braided cord with a spring on each end.
I managed to get that off in one re-usable piece.
All the 'NEW' new Ovations that I've got (gotten?) had nylon stringie-thingies on them that I just cut.
One end just drops into the bowl for retrieval later, and clip the other end close to the preamp.
(Where that end will disappear into the preamp, hopefully never to be seen again)

So, If yours is a black elastic string there is a spring on the end that you can twist-out.
Otherwise, get the nail clippers.

These are just to keep the pre-amps in their original guitars in showrooms, right?

Actually, Ovation's had a problem with preamps falling out of the guitars so they attach them with fishing line to make certain they don't drop on the floor.....

Thank you for your responses.
From the times I had gone to Guitar Center and saw all the (what seemed to be) mismatched preamps, I kind of thought that the nylon string thing was some kind of deterrence.
I can also see the benefit of making sure preamps don't fall out, either while on display or in transit.
I don't think my preamp will ever fall out, though, for it is in there quite snugly. Therefore, because it's the clear fishing line anti-theft/anti-accident device, I shall snip it the next time I remove the preamp.

Thanks again.

I agree with the "no-Swap" conspiracy.
