We're just into our 3rd month of winter here and the mercury hit 35°C today. (That's 95°F!)

Wow!

I think they're now calling it climate change.

For much of the US, it has been a record cool summer. Must be the heat all went south for the summer to Australia.

Never underestimate the power of EL NIÑO!

If I went back to grad school for Marine Science, this would be number one (I mean; Numero Uno) on my research wish list. The sheer scale of the event boggles my tiny little mind.

While that may be true... I don't know where cause, we've had the hottest days in history recorded this summer at nearly 100 in an area that it's rare to see 90. Last week I was riding through Wall, SD and it was nearly 110 !!!! On the way back it was 100 in Leavenworth, Washington which rarely sees much over 80 as well.

As for the "wet Washington weather" we all joke about... I don't think it's actually rained since March although I think there was a sprinkle one or two mornings a few weeks back.

Call it whatever you want... but it's setting records and plotting points in temp and precipitation (or lack of in either case) that have not been recorded in the history of recording them.

Except we are not even in an El Nino cycle at the moment. I'm suffering the same heat as Muzz, this morning is already a scorcher and it's still Winter!!

The exact causes may be up for debate, but there's no denying global climate is changing - and quickly. Things will get ugly before they stabilize.

Actually we are. That's why I provided the link. Go there and click the link for "Today's status". The report is a little technical, but the effects of this El Nino are expected to last well into the winter of 2009.

Miles! You were in Wall and you didn't stop in Hot Springs?!!?? It's only a couple of hours from here. I would've loved to meet you and show off my shop and all the great guitars I've been accumulating lately. And it was a lot cooler here too. We've been mostly in the eighties, and an occasional ninety something. NEXT time, OK?

It has been a cooler than normal summer here. Probably due to the fact that we have had more rain than the past two summers. We're just under 4" above normal. Two years ago the entire month of August it was above 90 every day and a lot of those were 95+ with a hand full of +100 and very little rain. I remember it because my wife was in the hospital for 5 days and it was so cold in her room I would go outside and stand in the sun to warm up. People thought I was crazy. :D
