In this way, you wouldn't need to plug in your guitar to use the on-board Tuner. That would be soooo much nicer. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this, so they better hurry! Jim

I'll tune it up in no time then play along others or play along with a recording and NEVER had a problem. It is incredibly fast and doesnt react to the ambient noise. Ive never had a clip on tuner but wonder if they are more temperemental to environmental interference. I also have used the tuners on both amps and my effects pedal. I think the built in tuner beats them all for speed and accuracy. JMO.

I do a better job tuning it by ear, but mainly use my 20 year old Korg to get it bang on. I'd ask Ovation for a replacement, but as my '05 is an FRG, it's no longer under warranty.

If I tune by ear, my practice time is over before I get the guitar right. I have an app on my iPhone (Cleartune) that seems to do a better job than the VIP. The VIP gets pretty good, but Cleartune can get it bang on.

As TANKAN says, I can tune accurately by ear, but again, difficult in a loud room. I've completely given up on my OP Pro's on-board tuner and have ordered a Gogo clip-on - they're getting really good reviews.
