Lightly Played near mint condition strung with Thomastik-Infeld Spectrum 11-52
Most of you know what this is - but for those who don't... 1996 Ovation 30th Anniversary 1768-7LTD Elite like the one featured on the cover of "The History of the Ovation Guitar" book, by Walter Carter. NEAR MINT CONDITION with minimal fret ware and no scratches, dings, dents, cracks or flaws of any kind. This was an extremely limited run, and was not part of the normal collector series. Highest grade spruce top, nutmeg stain, abalone binding around top, neck, and headstock, gold pegs with pearl buttons, deep bowl, banner inlay at 12th fret "1966-1996", original Ovation case in excellent condition and Optima preamp manual. If you are an Ovation person, this guitar is THE ONE. Technically it's the model 1768-7LTD, but everyone just calls it the "Book Elite". So what is it? In 1996 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ovation, a special series of instruments were commissioned - 6 string, 12 string, mandolin, Viper, Longneck and Manocello. All had common ornamentation. The 6 string guitar (basically a well dressed Elite) was pictured on the cover of the Walter Carter book "The History Of The Ovation Guitar". Hence, ever since, this guitar has been called the "Book Elite". Specifications include a deep cutaway bowl, Optima preamp system with XLR, honey toned spruce top, and the entire body, neck and headstock bound in abalone. No fretboard markers except for a "1966-1966" inlay on the 12th fret. This is one of the most stunning looking Ovation instruments ever produced. Ovation has stated that they don't know how many of these six strings were made. The best guess is about 200. All they know for certain is they made 305 instruments in Hartford, Ct. for their 30th anniversary in 1996. A few Vipers, mandolins, mandocellos, 12strings and basses. All were given the 1768-7ltd serial number. The guitar was also chosen to appear on the cover of Walter Carter's book "The History of Ovation" and an autographed copy of the book came with the guitar (Is not included here). So guys ya ain't gonna buy it in the store. It's a nice guitar, it's a rare guitar and it's collectible. More important it is only going to appreciate in value if taken care of. If you can afford it I think it's a good buy.

I looked for three years before finally finding mine, from another very short-term member here who bought it new as a collector piece and never played it, and I paid a real premium for ownership rights.

Long ago I figured I'd replace it with a Book Elite, but I'll probably just hang a recent purchase in its spot and get it up off the floor. Either I have too many guitars or I don't have enough time. If I have time, I'll look for a Book, but then I probably won't have money.
