The triangular mounting plate (or horizontal wood block) on the Hercules presents a challenge. The arrangement of the mounting screws do not all line-up to hit a wall stud. In earthquake country, I would not rely on drywall anchors. I mounted multiple Hercules in a row on a nice looking secured backing board, but I need a clean looking solution for a single mount in various locations. I'm looking for a secure active hanger that hits the wall stud and has a clean appearance. Edited by noah 2012-08-29 4:31 AM

The also make a metal backed model, which I think provides a little more support. I like the wood backed models because the hanger itself is attached to the wood block with a 1/4" nut and washer, so it can be removed and used for lots of different custom applications, like hanging guitars off the ceiling with an L bracket, attaching the hanger to metal shelving, etc. I am using many different hangers in my bandroom, and these are my favorites because of their versatility. You can buy them in multiple lots, too.

I just don't want to worry about guitars shaking off in an earthquake. I originally used Off The Wall guitar hangers which have a triangular mounting hole arrangement like a few of the Hercules models. (Hercules also has a model with a vertical wood mounting block). The Off The Wall hangers have two different width swinging cradles (one for average width nuts and a wide version for basses & classicals). The cradles are removable and interchangable on the wall-mounted base. When the Hercules hangers came out, I started changing over for the added security that they offered. These new Fender hangers appear to be a streamlined take on the Hercules idea. It also appears that there is a supplied bracket/mounting-screw cover which could be painted to match the wall. Just looking for security, convenience, and someting that blends in as much as possible to the decor when not in use (wife-friendly). I was hoping that someone here had tried them.

You know the ones that typically came with the regular stands....rubber loop on each end and a thick rubber center? If you don't know what I am talking about I can probably take a picture and post it up. I even think I have 4-5 lying around somewhere that you can have if they would work.

They have big rubber ends that keep the guitar from sliding out. I'd be more suspect to the cheap plastic hangers with these cheap plastic mechanisms over the string swing's metal and rubber construction. b) use a mounting board. attach it to the studs, then you can attach whatever hangers you want wherever you want them. I use 2 rows of 1x6 boards. Here's a pic: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/339986_10150269040593175...

I have tried to use them as intended. When installed and used properly, you can barely remove the guitar from the hanger even in the best of circumstances. They snug up the necks very securely. The hanger will fall off the wall before the hook loses its grip on the guitar.
