I was thinking of getting this guitar as I'd save $800 on shipping, but I prefer to be true to Ovation.

Plus I'm currently in remission from GAS - thank you God!

But the real question is how does it sound?
For that kinda money you could get 3-4real nice pre-war Brazilians.

I think a Brazilian would be too painful. And that's one fugly guitar.

I thought a brazillian was how much they were wanting for it.

Like so many guitars, the pictures don't do this one justice at all. I saw one in person once, and I was prepared, having seen photos of it, to declare it over the top in so many ways. But I have to say, once you get up close to it, you can't help but be impressed with the artistry involved. The detail work in it is second to absolutely nothing!

Obviously it's a showcase for builders' talents; as much artwork as instrument. I couldn't play the one I saw, but considering the luthier talent pool at Martin's command, I'l bet it sounds darn fine!

I saw one at the NAMM show a few years back and thought it looked silly back then. Pictures just confirm my initial impression. Probably sounds great, but I'd be embarassed to pick it up and play it. Looks silly......

I saw one at the Martin factory about 6 years ago. Like others here my immediate reaction was you could never play it, but as you looked at it more and more it just called out to be touched. Shame about the half inch security glass it was behind at the time :-)

Point taken. So, given you spent the $150K on this critter, WOULD you ever play it- or put it behind half-inch glass, & a couple of Rottweilers?!

Like Moody, I, too, saw one of the D100s behind glass at NAMM, and there was also a D50 available for playing. Never one to turn away from a little bling, this one is a work of art, pure and simple. The question is . . . if you were unexpectedly given $150,000 to use any way you like, would you spend it on this? I suspect many of us might spend some of it on a little gear upgrade, but for me, most of it would go for debt reduction and other non guitar-related stuff. Instruments (art) like this are intended for affluent collectors.

Well, they must have some market for them because they woudn't want a lot of those sitting around in inventory if they wern't selling. Not my cuppa though.

But ther are laws against that. Besides, pre-war Brazilians would be too old to do much anyway.
