Why do you think it's #1 of 10 ? Not doubting, just trying to fill in the gaps of info on the pF-22 that at one time were clear and have gotten muddy over the years as more of these pop up.

So how does it sound? What's the scoop on the pickups?

Thought folks might find this interesting.

The original PF pickups were two single coils. The bobbins from the magnum bass rear pickup were used with a hole drilled between the two pole pieces for the third pole piece and set them. Dave Fiester from the Henry Paul band had a Fender custom and liked those pickups so Bill Kaman tried to get close to that. The pickups were mounted on a plate and were wired in the hum-canceling position, (much like a P bass setup). The plate was the same size as a Dimarzio so they could be changed if the owner wanted to. Anything in the aftermarket at the time would fit.

He does not say it is #1
He is merely stating that it is one of ten known to exist.

Ahhhh the devil in da de-tails There were a few more than 10, but not many. Less than 20.

It is really a beautiful guitar and it has a great big voice...sounds great through the Boogie...I hate to sell it but it's part of the plan...this and Stephen T's Bass would make a great pair...just sayin....

That's a very cool guitar and piece of Ovation history you have offered up here. Wish I had the cash! Good luck with the sale, somebody is gonna end up a very happy camper!

I spent the afternoon playing this guitar...at first, there were some problems with switching and intermittent cutting out of the signal...I checked everything external, no problems. I took off the back plate and upon examination, found five cold solder joints including the ground to the back of the volume pot and four loose wires/solder joints to the switches...I used my small gas solder gun and some fresh solder and repaired each joint. Can't tell I was even there. And the guitar is a monster! I owned one of the first Peavey T-60's in 1979/80 and it was a cool guitar as far as sound went...great Tele and Strat sounds..I read the history behind the motivation to make the PF-22 and while they it approaches the wide range of the T-60, in reality it's a different guitar altogether...much more gain, much more variation of sounds, and much better construction overall...the Peavey always seemed cheap to me...
It's too bad this did not make it to production...I believe it would have sold well...
So, as much as I would like to keep this, it is 100% ready to go and will handle any job it is given.

BTW, see the post on this guitar under the Ovation Electrics Heading for the switching positions.

Just to mention this particular one is extremely rare due to the Dave Fiester inspired pickups. I believe there is only one other with these pickups in it and that is sitting in a case behind me right now Actually until I saw this one I believed mine to be the only one with these pickups but it makes sence that there were likely a couple or three as they were experimenting.

I have not been shy about stating that these PF guitars were probably the best solid-bodies Ovation made overall. I love my Vipers and the UKII's etc, because of their unique voices. The PF-22's were just a slight step up with the addition of the set-neck and the ability to use standard pickups. The PF22 design would have been the perfect base model for LOTS of configurations... but alas.... oh well..

This is one awesome guitar and a great piece of Ovation history.

And it is no longer for sale...even after I worked on it and wrote the note, I could not stop playing it...it sounds fabulous through my Boogie Mark V...sorry but it's staying here with me!

I saw that coming... Hey Mike, what is the serial number on it... you can PM me if you don't want to post it. It should be on the bottom edge of the headstock. Just curious to see how close it is to mine.

now you should step up and get the twin bass to go with it.....
reunite the family.

I played the PF22 at rehearsal last night and it was indeed a monster. Sounded kickass on the rock, exceptional on the funk, and great on the ballads.

I should really keep mine also but I just have too many basses and need to thin out the herd by about half.

OK, it's "Black Friday". I forgot to take into account SWMBO in the decision to keep the PF22...so, in spite of how much I'd like to keep the guitar, it is available for sale again; same as above. Believe me, nobody's happy if Mama isn't happy... Someone is going to get a great guitar and an Ultra Rare piece of Ovation History!
