I just bought it. She needs a volume knob, and upper binding. I'm not sure if installing the binding is in my skill set, but I'm pretty sure I can handle the knob.

The sitka is also cracked. I would appreciate suggestions on a repair material, and or process.

I got it for $200. Plays nice, and the electronics still work too!

Any tips or help are appreciated!

As of a couple years ago, Ovation customer service still had the stacked volume/tone knobs for an 83 Collector, so they may have one for your 79. Check the Stew-Mac website for the binding. They may even have some how to video on how to repair the binding.

mikal, a 1619 Custom Legend for $200... I think ya did great!  Smiley

(even better if it came with its Ovation case)

Unfortunately top cracks on the oldie Os are all too common, but not necessarily detrimental.

Often caused by not having been kept properly humidified.

Here's a couple links to search results from the current General Posting Archive that might help ya with the repair...

Yes! It has the brown-smelly case! I'm glad too, cuz with the shape the case is in, I couldn't imagine there would be much left of the guitar if it wouldn't have had it.
Thanks, I'll check those links out.
