Noobie here. I'm still the only person I've ever met who actually owns and plays an Ovation solid-body, except for the guy I bought it from, and he obviously was no longer interested in owning and playing one. Attaching (hope) pix of the toy. Obviously it's been modified: pickguard was broken when I got it and has been replaced. Humbucking pickups (Jackson at bridge, Ibanez S-80 at the neck), a few extra switches (phase and coil split on the bridge pickup... to tell you the truth, I find I barely ever use those...) and knobs replaced with Gibson speed-style. I loved the playability and stability of this guitar from the start, but felt the pickups lacked output when playing with a band, hence the pickup replacement. I still have the originals and am thinking of a project to use them in... have often thought they might do well in a Telecaster-type guitar. Oh, also, although I liked the distinctive original tuning machines with the black vinyl housing and pearl knobs, one of the cats dictated I change them out as well by knocking the thing off its stand, which broke a few of the housings when it landed. So now it's tuned with gold-plated Gotohs.

Have thought about applying some additional modifications, inspired by Adrian Legg's Preacher (I have the book) but probably will leave as is.

This guitar just has wonderful action, and just absolutely never goes out of tune. I can leave it sitting in it's case for months and when I take it out find it perfectly still in tune.

So here's a question: Has anybody ever made use of the screw that secures the bridge through the back? Mine has always been locked down but I've always wondered (but never tried) if there might be some benefit of loosening it up. Obviously you could use it to effect the action by and perhaps the intonation (by allowing the bridge to tilt forward and shifting the saddles forward). Neither of those interest me because, as I said, it pretty much perfect as it is in those regards. What I've always been particularly interested whether you might be able to a vibrato action out of it using the heel of your hand on the bridge. Has anyone ever tried this?

So peace-out, O-heads!

Welcome!
It adjusts the angle on the bridge and may affect sustain. If its loose it will cause a buzz.
