| Hello,
I have a 2778ax elite and the string slots are too low. I having been searching for a replacement pickup assembly and I was wondering if I have to replace the entire assembly or is it possible to remove the saddle from the pickup assembly? I see two part numbers on the USA part list, but looks like it is attached. |

There really shouldn't be any "slots" in your saddle.
Aside from that,
The saddle can be removed an replaced on the older, Wide, "Original Patented Pickup" units.
But I currently have a newer pickup that has metal ends, and it seems more difficult to remove.
But I am sure that it can be done... with patience and a skinny prybar.
It would be simpler to just replace the whole pickup...

| Thanks guys for the tips, I left a message with Ovation about getting a replacement pickup. Anyone know how much they usually run? Yes you are right there shouldn't be slots in the saddle, unfortunately it was me thinking I needed to lower the action further after removing all the shims  Turns out the neck was bowed and the frets weren't level. What's strange is that I'm getting this buzzing overtone if I fret the 6th string at the 7th fret and strike the 4th string open. It goes away if I drop the 6th string down to D. Our best theory is that strings must be making too much contact with the saddle and this unwanted vibration is transferred across the saddle not sure if we are right but we have eliminated all the other buzz sources. |
