Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | I just gave the tenth lesson to a ten-year-old little girl who has a starter guitar. This kid is fingerpicking some pretty complex stuff already and her talent blows my mind. But today I was explaining bar chords to her and on her fairly high actioned guitar she GOT them. Crystal clear. I told her "This is F, this is G, this is A, and if you go across and play the same shape over here, you have Bm, Cm, and Dm. She started trying to put them into a song! Then she repeated back to me the names of the chords as she played them.
This was all just an afterthought at the end of her lesson. I think we spent all of three minutes on it. EVERYTHING I show this kid, she gets it. AND she retains it.
God, I love my job!!!! |

Good lord. I'd love to be able to play like that. I'm still trying to get barre chords quickly.
Imagine how she'll go when she gets given a decent guitar |

Location: Chicago | An encouraging Story, Alison! Makes me miss teaching guitar. Year ago, I had a crowd of students (30!) of whom a few were really good. It is very meaningful to pass along what you have and encourage new talent. Then they surpass you and it's a whole new "humble" to deal with! |

Location: Taxed To Death State | Love to hear stories like that. There are so many talented kids out there. I wish I could get my son off of Minecraft long enough to pickup a guitar. |
