Hello everyone! I have a guitar with action so high it is unplayable if you want to go higher than open position chords.
In 2012 Sweetwater was blowing out the last dozen of these discontinued Chinese-made CC29S Celebritys that have the really comfortable U.S. made Contoured bowl for $300 so I bought one. The build quality on this guitar is not good so I see why they discontinued them!

The action has always been way too high for me (I'm primarily an electric play and do like to play up high on the neck). In three years I've played this guitar maybe 5 or 7 times because it is annoying.
I live in Seattle where there is plenty of humidity and keep the guitar in one of those nice grey and white hard soft cases http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/ovation-mid-deep-zero-gr...

The action at the 12th fret is 5/32" on all strings except the high E which is 3.33/32"

The action may (or may not) have been slightly lower when it was new, but I'm not certain- I think it has always been ridiculously high from the start.

I've removed all the shims under the bridge and have tightened the truss rod as far as it will go without forcing it-the neck relief is 1/32nd" at the 7th fret.

It does look like the neck bows forward quite a bit starting at the 7th or 6th fret... from the 5th fret to the neck this curving is really pronounced... it makes me wonder if tightening the truss rod would fix it, but I am afraid to tighten past where it gets really tight.

The action at the 15 fret it is 5.25/32" on all strings except the high E which is 5/32".
The action at the 12th fret is 5/32" on all strings except the high E which is 3.33/32"
@7th fret: 4/32" (3.33/32" High E)
@5th fret: 3.5/32" (2.75/32" E)
@3rd fret: 2.5/32" (2.25/32" E)
@2nd fret: 2/32" (1.9/32" E)
@1st fret: 1/32"

Should I take the strings off and tighten the truss rod a quarter turn every couple days even though it feels like it doesn't want to go? Or should I take it to a luthier instead of breaking the truss rod like that!

Thank you to anyone who can help!!! As it is, this guitar is useless so I may as well sell it, but, being on a budget right now, this is my only chance, for now, to have an Ovation with the contoured U.S. back, which is REALLY nice.

Thank you!

I am assuming that the action has been high since 2012?
I had a used CC29S-4C that came to me with slots cut in the saddle due to high action.

That was probably the stock saddle/pickup that came with the guitar.
That is one solution... Not necessarily the correct one, but it sorta worked.
Later, I switched that saddle with another that I had, but the action was still high...
(but lower than it was)
So I put Martin M1400 Silk-n-Steel strings on it and that improved the action.
Of course I had to adjust the Truss Rod, but that was after I changed the strings.
So I recommend you get Lighter Tension strings to start.
Also, if you need to buy another saddle... That is a CP-100 saddle, and you can get one from Ovation.
OR... another solution is to get a separate Saddle and undersaddle piezo pickup.
One undersaddle piezo that works is an Artec PP607.
A flexible Nanoflex might work, But the the Artec has six individual piezo like the Ovation pickup.
The Artec also has an 1/8" plug that will plug into the preamp.
(That connection is behind the battery box... we could discuss that later)
Then you could easily replace the saddle with a lower one.
(up until you find that you need to shave the front edge of the bridge for clearance)

Oh... And my Final Solution with my CC29S-4C was that I sold it on eBay.
I hope that helps...
