Location: NJ | suzipep loves rush. somehow I have avoided going with her all these years but this time I couldn't avoid it.
back in the day IMHO you were either a yes or elp fan and many a night was spent in a black lite and match lit basement discussing the merits and detrations of both bands. sure later we got into remaissance, king crimson, gong, 801, steve hillage, etc but rush was always that annoying trio from canada with the singer with the high pitched voice. sorta reminded me of spinal tap.
so as the years progress, i come to appreciate the musicianship of the band and even are able to recognize some of thier tunes. bought sue the R30 dvd and watched it with her and even enjoyed it.
last nights show did not disappoint. this band does not take themselves seriously. they have some cartoons playing before and during the show and it seemed less spinal tapish to me.
great playing geddy on his signature fender and alex on various gibsons. neil did a drum solo that just knocked me out. expert playing but it was really loud and the sound was distorted. I know sound systems have come a long way since the old days but I really think the quality of sound was better then. oh yeah everyone STOOD for almost the entire concert and the guy with the stinky weed was again behind me but this time was whistling the shrillest sound that was like an icepick through my ear and let loose out the top of the center of my head.
overall great show. alex played through hughes and kettner amps, geddy I believe goes direct last tour he had 2 washing machines on stage this time he had 4 rotissere chicken racks. I hope they were fake or it would really be hot on stage. LOL |

alex has his signature H&K amp now, wonder if he's touring with it. It has the unique purple illumination and special crocodile tolex on the head and cabs.
glad you enjoyed the show. |
