I wonder if this is a record for a Viper? Well worth it and congrats to both the seller and the buyer.....

That custom Viper III I had with the nice maple woods went for about $1300 and change a couple of years ago.

I sold my Viper 3 about a year ago for $925.00

Wayne's custom Viper 3 was the nicest I have ever seen.

Seriously - I was surprised this one went for as much as it did, especially with the Ovation market kind of soft right now. Just shows how much appreciation is starting to get generated for these Ovation solids.

Of course, most people I talk to don't even know Ovation made electrics...got to get out more.

Wow. I would have bet money that that Viper would have gone for less than $500. But it does have some of the prettiest wood I've seen on a natural.

Just think of a VXT made with that type of wood & finish. That's close to what we saw at the factory.

The Viper in the auction was nice looking (from the few pictures I looked at), and Bluebirds highly figured example is outstanding. I just couldn't bond with the Viper I had, though I did like the tones it produced.

But Cruster, the solution was simple.

Cruster's Viper before

After

The Viper III models seem to go for a few hundred more than the more common two-pup models, and condition, of course, can impact the sale price considerably.

That being true, what's to stop someone from taking a Viper I and routing out a third pickup slot and selling it as a Viper III?

(oops, did I give something away?)

By the time you got the pup and added the extra switching it would negate any additional profit, I would think.
