I just purchased a Korean made CC57 (note no zeros) that has had the pickup removed and the preamp/jack wiring clipped and removed. This is the old two slide control (TONE/GAIN, Celebrity by Ovation, KAMAN faceplate) preamp. The S/N is 355607. I paid $75 for the git and case. If I can't restore it, she'll become the travel trailer entertainment center! I sure would like to recreate her prom night though! :D

I think that she was born in the early 90s.

First, how do I remove the preamp?

Second, are any of the electronics still available? If not, upgrade possibilities?

For a git that has spent several years in the Caribbian and much traveled prior to my purchase, she's in terrific shape (thanks to a worn but intact case).

Any info would be greatly appreciated! ;)

TIA

It might attach the same way the op24 does. That is, you have to remove the face plate sticker (the thing with the markings on it just under the sliders) after removing the slider buttons. This should be just a mylar sticker that can be removed using a sharp knife under one corner. Under that, there should be 4 screws holding the inside part to the outer trim ring. Disclaimer: that is IF it's like an op24 preamp. I personally have never worked with the lower line celeb preamps, so maybe I'm just blowing smoke...

As for replacement, you could probably find an op24 used for a reasonable price. I believe you may have to make the hole a little bigger for the op though. (read the disclaimer again)

TJ,

Thanx for the info! That's what I suspected.

I'm hoping that I can find a suitable pickup and wire it into the preamp, plus rewire the phone jack.

Again, thanx!
