Maybe that is not the case in Ireland but it is in the USA. You may want to contact Paul Templeman he is in the UK and a member here.

I notice very little difference in sound, a little more in materials. It would have been perfectly fine for me for many more years, but I don't use a 12 enough to have 2 of them. The guy I sold it to is perfectly happy with it.

Some of the 'AA' coded models with low model numbers were US made, and play very well. My AA14 is a cracker! Later models were Korean or (now) Chinese. I find that the newer models have a 'sticky' finish on the necks that I don't like. Used guitars don't seem to have this. Inevitably eBay may be the place to look... HW

I also have heard that Apps have aluminum fret-boards (correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm guessing that they are pretty indestructible. So I may be open to one of them sometime. Continue the Education of the Masses. (Then again, I probably have too many guitars...)

For a while there, it was my knock-around guitar that I either practiced with alone, or took to the classroom to engage the students in music sing-a-long activities. Due to its bare bones electronics, it was unfortunate to note that these guitars are better played unplugged, for it can be annoyingly bright when plugged into an amp. If it wasn't for the broken neck, due to a child who lost his balance and accidentally slammed against it, I would never have parted with it.

Top is spruce, natural colour, I assume laminated but the edge of the soundhole has a sort of black binding so can't tell for sure. Has an inlaid rosette of concentric rings. They are not common here in Irl, I've only ever seen one being played by a busker. I definitely prefer the sound of this to some more expensive all- wood guitars I've played. I also think it sounds better when you're sitting in front of it (i.e. listening, not playing it.), whereas GOOD all-wood guitars sound good from 'behind' as well. Anyone else go along with this thoery? Anyone know where I'd get 12-string version?

Like all Ovations, it is relatively indestructable in comparison to other guitar brands...that's the only reason I still have any guitars at all; also why people look nervous when I try theirs. Nevermind the mess, just don't step in the llama doo, don't put your fingers in Cliffs cage, or buy any string tubes from a misanthrope called Standing Ovation. This will all make sense later, welcome abroad. She'd like that.

That was what originally led me to this forum, looking for information on it. It has the aluminum fretboard and the foam neck, and can be seen in the "member access" section in my album. Of course, thanks to the encouragement from here, I now have 5 more Ovations and an Adamas.... :D Roger

I was thinking of using a rotating pot (I see some of the older ovations used these) rather than a flush-mounted sliding one. Anyone got pics of these? Also where to buy such a thing? I can get basic ones from an electronics supplier but would prefer a guitar-specific one. Presumably one that would suit an electrig guitar with single coil pickup.

I bought a used 12-string version in '84, and gave it as a gift to my girlfriend. And her son never returned my 100W Guitar Dude combo amp!
