So it finally came! I ordered from National Music Supply and it took them 3.5 weeks to get the guitar to me. I was told by costumer service the guitar had to be shipped into them from another facility before it should be shipped to me, and than there was a hold up with the case etc. Overall National Music Supply kinda left a bad taste in my mouth because the guitar was listed as "in stock" and I was without an acoustic for 3.5 weeks because I sold my old one to finance this one. Anyway....

So I get the guitar today and holly crap! It is so sweet, I went out on a limb buying this model without ever playing it but I had a good feeling, it totally kicks the ass of all the non deep bowl Ovations I have played. The guitar projects awesome, is not incredibly loud but has a tone all to itself. Playing jazz progressions on it just feels and sounds so right, as does finger picking bluesy stuff. The neck is so nice, can play as fast on this guitar as I can on my Gibson ES-135. Plugged into Logic with a little hall verb on the bus it is the sweetest thing in the world, so dynamic, the EQ allows for a ton of flexibility as I can tune in a total jazz guitar hollow-body sound on this acoustic if I desire simply by tweaking the EQ and applying the right verb. The look of the guitar is nothing short of sexy, I got the natural finish one, looks really nice and shiny.....the guitar is also really heavy too which makes it feel cool. Anyway, I got to get back to playing/recording this one. I might have some samples up at some point for everyone to hear. Also I would like to thank this forum for helping inform me on different Ovation models and ultimately leading me to purchase this exact guitar, this is above and beyond the acoustic for me. Thanks!

Congrats. There is nothing quite like a non-cutaway deep bowl for the classic Ovation acoustic sound.

Congratualtions! The 1717 is the classic Ovation look. To my mind, it is beautiful. And it has the A bracing which makes for a full deep warm sound. That would be my first choice.

What preamp came with it?

The OP40, just pretty much learned all the in's and outs of it, the mid shift adds a nice flexibility and the "pre-shape" is nice too. Having a tuner built into the guitar is really useful too. Fun fun fun.

Congratulations to a great guitar. Very wise decision!

Like I always say - these new "Traditionals" are the way to go if you are looking for real Ovation sound. None of those LX models can stand the challenge compared with these new Oldies.
