Last night was no exception. Fagen, looked like the serial killer and becker, the demented college english professor that you don't want to leave alone with your wife or daughter or dog for that matter. A good sampling of the hits were played during the evening including one song from the current CD whish is now about 2 years old and one track from fagen's recent solo lp. the band as usual were killer, I still can't figure out why i am not enamoured with jon herrington but his playing is competent. Keith carlock on drums STOLE the show he is incredible and if you ever get a chance to see him play you will know why. Fagen seems to have an endless supply of vintage3 fender rhodes pianos and becker was playing a sadowsky or suhr through a rack of effects and a bognor cab. his tone never chances so I have no clue why he has so much gear, maybe he likes the flashing lights. an organ trio opened sort of a modern day take off on jimmy smith trio. all excellent musicians, although it seemed like no one cared. often people ask me about what kind of music I like and well stelly dan is usually the answer. much like jeff w sits in awe of richard thompson (well I do that too) I sit in awe of "the dan" and think how cool it would be to sit back like becker and just blow solos all night to one of the tighest bands out there. if they are coming your way catch them, well worth it. do it now! you never know when becker and fagen will start to fight again and cancel a tour.

My only issue was that they didn't have enough time to play everything I wanted to hear. Granted, a 24 hour concert might be asking a little much....

Where did you get those shoes? Well, I've seen 'em on the TV, the movie show They say the times are changing but I just don't know These things are gone forever Over a long time ago, oh yeah

Funny thing is, during the late 70's and 80's, they put out these great records, and didn't tour, at least after Aja. Now "A Decade of Steely Dan" later, they are the greatest live band on stage. Note the venues, the Tower, The Beacon, no arena crap for these boys....they're just too cool.
