Location: Hicksville, NY | There is no contending that the mothership does excellent service and repairs on our guitars. I, myself have experienced it, and I am totally impressed by the work that they had done to my balladeer [at that time]. However, there are occasions when taking the guitar to the factory is not necessary.
From basic set-ups to vital repairs, sometimes, even the do-it-yourself[er] will need to rely on the expertise of others to get the job done. With that in mind, who would you recommend in your local area?? An authorized Ovation tech person is preferred, but overall, it doesn't really matter...
p.s.
-- should a fellow OFCer be visiting your neck of the woods, and will need to service his/her guitar, then he/she will know who to go to. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | In The Phoenix/Tempe area I use a place called "The Music Store". How original. Located on Baseline Rd.
He's a Martin, Gibson, Epi, Takamine and Hamer dealer. No Ovations. But he does good work on all stringed instruments, including Ovations. Had some uke work done there and it was very well done, fast and reasonable price. He also does a lot of violin type stuff. Just a little hole in the wall, but definately someplace to trust.

It's easy to get here from Hicksville, NY (and other points from Long Island.) Take the train, on weekends and off peak there's a deep discount. Somehow get to Jamaica Station, and then to Atlantic Avenue / Fulton. He's two blocks from the station. He's also only two blocks from the 2,3,4,5, A, C, G, N, R, W and Q trains. He's also on the way to Manhattan, if you take the train from JFK.
He makes his own guitars and basses, as well.
Very trustworthy. |

Location: PDX | In Portland Oregon i highly recommend:
The 12th Fret
They do it all. I've had them repair a stripped truss rod nut on my 000-28EC and rout out a Telecaster and replace a SC with a HB.
Excellent work and wonderful folks.

Location: Hicksville, NY | Thanks Rick for the info. I'll check it out when I'm around the Brooklyn area ...
here's a couple I would recommend if you're in the Long Island area:
1) John Bertsche @ We Buy Guitars
705A Bedford Ave., Bellmore, NY
516-221-0563
- John had worked on my guitars before, especially the HD-28, and I'm pleased with the job that he has done. You may also want to check out their selection of vintage electrics [mostly LPs and Strats] while you're there.
2) Ralph Agresta @ Sam Ash [really!]
385 Old Country Road, Carle Place, NY
- For most people, Ralph is known for authoring a number of books for music instruction, and as a teacher from Workshop Live! I was surprised to find out that he also repairs guitars in the most unlikely of all places. I'm fortunate that the guitars I purchased from Sam Ash come with a service protection plan, which I renew every two years. Ralph has worked on them, and I'm also very pleased with the results. |
