Jim,

Great selection. What strings are you going to use on the 97 Collectors?

Mike,
They are like new now, but when I do change them, I think I'm going with the Elixir extra lights (.010-.047) I've also got a set of Adamas Phosphor Bronze (.010-.047) that I might try. From what you've used on yours, do you have any other sugestions?

I've used Silk & Steel. Nice sound but they don't last as long as Phosphor Bronze.

The next string change I'm going to use D'Addario Custom Lights,(.011-.052).

Don't forget to register it on Tupperware's website.

BTW; The clock's time never changes. Put a fresh battery in it. :D

I know it's been said there is only one size bowl... but, that '97 Collector's sure looks smaller.

BTW Jim, Nice family!

The 97 was Ovation's one and only attempt at a different size bowl. It is smaller than their regular bowl...

Not true. There was the DREADNAUGHT sized bowl.

There's a couple of real early ones with different bowls and/or body outlines, there was one hanging up at the factory.

Gary, isn't it time for you to get another one? I'm thinking maybe....something like a hollow body electric? :D

when isn't it a good time to buy a nice hollow body? Even the wife is kinda hinting about it,
so either SHE wants something (remember the washer episode)or she's hoping that i'll find one i can play! Besides, that would be 3 "O's"
in about a month, she may make me sell one (or not)

You are totally welcome. 97's are totally fun guitars and I was glad to share this one with you.

JP,
Checked out your gallery ... what's the dark colored strat like, is it mahogany bodied? How does it play? Nice looking group of guitars.

The Strat, or slatocaster as I called it, was a china import that started life as a deep blue squire, until I stripped it and refinished it in a natural satin finish with a light touch of golden oak stain. It just left, courtesy of Ebay, as I really didn't play it much. It sounded...well...like a Strat, and played very nice. Very low action and light (9's) strings, you could bend them all the way up the fretboard. Real nice guitar for a cheapie. I paid 40 bucks for it with gigbag, but had about 30 hours of labor in the refinishing. Man that paint they use is some tough stuff!

Hey! 900 posts!

No Randy, they stay up all the time. I've never had a problem (yet) with the dryness factor even with the AC on 24/7. The humidity around here outside seldom gets below 85-90% (usually 100%), and we keep the house between 40% and 50% give or take. Do you think thats too low?

It's pretty much a necessity down here. It's getting into the 90's now, and it's not even summer yet...
