We're dealing with the Gunflint trail fire that started in Northern Minnesota and crossed the border last week. It's going to be a bad summer for fires unless we get some more rain. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | I was watching the weather channel, and the plume is huge. You can see it on the doppler radar. It's visible from outerspace. It's really big.
The pilot is reported, after dropping the flare, to have said: "Ooops!" |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The land is flat down there and you've got lots of water. Try a couple hundred thousand acres in the mountains where the humidity is under 20% and the nearest place to land a plane or drive is miles away. This looks like it might be one of the West's worst fire years. |
