I just brought home a brown deep acoustic case with a warp that prevents the latch with the lock from closing. I have two clamps on it and made a weak attempt at heating the surrounding plastic with a blow dryer.

Before I break out the propane:

Has anyone had any success with this method?

The naptha has an effect of softening the hard shell case. Put in some sticks on the inside to push the case into the shape you want. Put on the naptha and wait 24 hours. There might be something else that it'll soften the hardshell temporarily, but I found that the naptha worked a little bit.

I have it pressed into shape. Tomorrow I will give it a Naptha wash and see what gives.
Thanks!

Did ya hear about the Polish Magician that invited a member from the audience up to help with a trick? As he laid his head on a table he asked the guy to hit him as hard as he could with a 10lb hammer.....10 years later, wakes up from the comma and says..... Ta Da!

Sometimes the metal strips that align for the seal of the case get out of alignment. If that is the case, you can find where it is off. Sometimes appropriate use of a rubber mallet can knock it back into shape. This is a trick I learned from the techs at my Ovation dealer who work on the all too commonly damaged cases rented out to music students.

Did you hear the one about the Polish lawyer? Oops, that would be me. No wonder why I have a Rodney Dangerfield complex. Willard just reminded me of the best reason for leaving Wisconsin.

I had this problem with an SKB guitar case once. UPS thrashed it (thankfully the guitar survived intact.

I don't know about the plastic, but if it is bent at all, it can be a real pain. I used strategically placed, precision micro-meter adjusted, whacks with a rubber mallet. It took some serious persuasion, and lots of contemplation between the latches on the front and hinges on the back to find where the real deformities were, but after a bit, she looks just like new (well...the rubber skid marks don't show THAT bad).

I gave it a Naptha wash and pounded the heck out of it. It was close, so I latched it and stuck it in the closet.

That'll teach'em!
