I see ovation will be there, no fender though. I suppose the list of exhibitors would make the decision for me. Anyway, I just put it out there.

He IS certainly legendary, no doubt, as both a player and inovator, and his contributions to the music world are innumerable, but "rock & roll" guitarist? I loved that short-lived TV commercial that was out a few years ago with this hot-shot kid trying to muddle his way through some rudementary licks on an electric guitar. This congenial looking old fella walks up and asks the kid if he could play his guitar. The kid, in a very smug and disrespectful tone says something like, "You want to play MY guitar, old man?" He hands it over to the elderly gent who begins to play some smokin' licks, effortlessly and flawlessly. As the old guy hands it back, the kid, whose eyes are now as wide as saucers, says, "Wow... That was awesome dude! What's your name?" The old guy, looking more than satisfied to have just put the bratty kid in his place, replies dryly, "It's on your guitar," and walks away. The kid looks toward the neck of his guitar as the sceen cuts to a tight shot of a Gibson headstock with "Les Paul Model" emblazoned on it. It was a great commercial, although I don't remember what it was advertising (might've been a beer ad). Wouldn't that make great scenario for one of those airline ads that says, "Feel like you want to get away...?" Jeff

The end. If you like that one how about this: This guy asks a girl to marry him, and she says no. He lived happily ever after, staying up as late as he wanted, hunting when he wanted, going out when he wanted and drinking beer whenever wanted. The end.

I had only been playing the one guitar I kept once in awhile. Daughter called from Cleveland in the morning, said she was going to New York. About 8pm (dark) this big burly guy rings the door bell. Couldn't see what he was holding. Then, as I was asking what was up, my daughter came around the front. The guy was her taxi driver, holding a Gibson case. She had to buy a coach seat for the guitar as the airline wouldn't put it in the hold. She upgrades to 1st Class. Guitar couldn't be in the aisle or window seat. Was in the middle between a married couple the whole trip from Cleveland to San Diego. Then, tried to find out how to seal the signature. Gibson suggested StewMac, use one of their aerosol spray cans   sure, ebony guitar, spray it with a can?? Me no idiot. Checked out with a couple of local luthiers - they didn't want to touch it due to the liability. The great part of the story is that his gift kicked me back into guitars after about ten years. As I had sold an Ovation Custom Legend slothead 12-str (1158), started working the eBay auctions for Ovations. As some of you know, I now have a pretty good collection.

First, ovation: The ovation people shoulda provided headphones. I got to try the current offerings, and the new contour bowls meet the hype, very comfortable. I wish they had some adamas, and the new country artist nylon, but I guess you can only carry so much stuff. Strange, I thought I would like the look of the inset elite eppaulettes, but they just seemed like they were trying to think of a way to keep the eppaulettes without having them go away. I say just have the holes, or do something like on Kaki King's guitar. The ovation people are nice, just ask if they'll jam with you. It was so noisy no one could tell how lousy I was. Couldn't really hear the Genz Benz amp in all the cacophony. But they're nice looking amps! Other items of interest: Babicz guitars, before I tried one, I thought these were a gimmick, but they really work. They really are great. Line 6 Pod, this is the only effects pedal you'll need Ibanez guitars, suprisingly good. Peavey guitars, don't see too many in NYC, great workmanship, did nothing for me though, amplifiers are good Dean Markley strings, gotta bunch for free! Marshall Stacks, god they are fearful! (They let you try them!) Moog theramin --- what a blast, like a science fiction movie. Rest of the stuff was too scientific for me. Lots of other stuff, other guitars, but these are the things that caught my fancy. It seemed like half of the gear was not gear, but really computer stuff, things for recording. I couldn't be bothered. I'm still using a casette.

I believe he also invented multi track tape recording, with some help from his friends at Ampex. A very smart fellow. Tony has a great collectible there.
