I want to find a back-up for my beloved 1537. Just to have something in the wings should the electronics fail, I break a string or some such (none of which has happened in 12 years of ownership...what a guitar).

What Ovation model would be a "best buy" used in the under $500 range. Knowing that I am pretty spoiled with the 1537 (the one Moody, PI won't own), I would like epulets, but not necessarily required. Mostly for this purpose it is plugged in.

I would probably make a run at them on fleabay, so some point out models to consider in my searches is what I am after.

Jeff, I was just trying to stir something up with my comments on the 1537. People here know that it's the one guitar that I would never part with.

If I were you, I'd look for a mid 80's Legend. Real good acoustic sound, OP24 preamp for a great plugged in sound, and you can get them with cutaways. Something a little different than your 1537. Look for about an 84 or 85 as it will still have a gloss neck and feel similar to your 1537.

Hey I knew that....I just couldn't find a "wink" icon to throw in there. Sorry for the misleading sarcasm...Thanks for the advice.

Does the Legend have a model number???

1617's are nice, too. They come up on ebay fairly often.

Why not grab Mitch's 1537, Currently at $450 on the bay with 9 hours to go.

Heck, I bet you could get him to sell it to you offline.

Uhhhh....well.....hmmmmmmmmm

Is this a trick question???????????????

I have a near flawless 1537 now. Owning multiples of items just isn't my thing.

I have been watching it though and hope he get's a good price (just like wanting my neighbors house to sell for a good price...makes mine worth more).

I personally think having an exact copy backup of your 1537 is an outstanding idea! Dave

What about an S771? Great bare-bones guitar that you can pick up on ebay for around $500. OP30, new, etc.

Since you like epaulettes, my two cents is 1768 or 1718. Both can be had for $500 if your patient.

Hmmmmm. Wonder if my DC400 would work with the right FX pedal and the piezo pickup. Maybe I don't need another guitar....(duck...INCOMING!!!!) ;-)
