Just to have something in the wings should the electronics fail, I break a string or some such (none of which has happened in 12 years of ownership...what a guitar). What Ovation model would be a "best buy" used in the under $500 range. Knowing that I am pretty spoiled with the 1537 (the one Moody, PI won't own), I would like epulets, but not necessarily required. Mostly for this purpose it is plugged in. I would probably make a run at them on fleabay, so some point out models to consider in my searches is what I am after.

If I were you, I'd look for a mid 80's Legend. Real good acoustic sound, OP24 preamp for a great plugged in sound, and you can get them with cutaways. Something a little different than your 1537. Look for about an 84 or 85 as it will still have a gloss neck and feel similar to your 1537.

Owning multiples of items just isn't my thing. I have been watching it though and hope he get's a good price (just like wanting my neighbors house to sell for a good price...makes mine worth more).
