Just like the title says... wondering if there is a fix to "enhance" the output on the OP-Pro Preamp when using the 1/4 inch connector. Compared to my Tangent with an OP-30, it's pretty low...unless your a fan of open amp noise, and turn the gains "way up"... I have not yet tried it with the XLR output, as I'd prefer just to run 1/4"...

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers

Mike

How far are you running with 1/4"? Are you going straight to an amp (10'-12') or into a snake to a board (50'-100')?

That's not really an issue. Long unbalanced cable runs bleed high frequency and are prone to get noisy, but don't significantly affect level

Nope - straight into an AC-60... 5 meter cable. Same one I use on the Tangent...

Try the XLR. Mine has a lot higher output than the 1/4 and no noise.

Paul, not arguing with the Master, but I've had level drop on long snakes, when I've had to use lines that were intended as speaker returns. Possibly just inferior quality snakes.
Mark's right. Use the XLR. You'll get higher levels and less noise.

I had this discussion with Kim Keller. He told me that is the way the OP-Pro is designed. A very gradual increase in gain. I always had to play my O's at 9/10 gain into a d/i box. I am looking forward to playing the XLR out with the OP-Pro.

When I borrowed Tony's 05 for a couple of weeks, I went with the XLR out into the board. It was quite a bit more powerful than the 1/4" jack.

A kind of lateral branch to this topic...

BruDev, do you have a schematic of the OpPro and do you know if they are using through hole vs surface mount technology? I've noticed the anemic response of the OpPro 1/4" output. Do you know of any particular reason/need or was it perhaps just a questionable design choice?

I believe Rick mentioned that output was one of the things improved in the upcoming OPPro Studio.

Yep. We asked him specifically. According to RH it will be. I think I even got it on the video.
