Hi all, first post! I've seen lots of good looking acoustic humidifiers for guitars with centrally located soundholes, but I'm partial to Elites, so have any of you guys come up with a good way to humidify an Elite type Ovation?

Get the planet waves humidifier, and one of those $15 hygormeters. If you could do a search you could find out how to test the hygrometer. Just do an internet search. It involves salt and a bag.

I thought the Planet Waves one fit between the strings and extended down into the soundhole. Do they have a different model?

If you go to this link:

You'll find a lot of different types of humidifiers that will work with your Elite.

I had a problem with low humidity recently, resulting in the action lowering about 1/32" on my Std. Elite LX. I used the Dampit, and am continuing to use it until the weather gets better. I tied a short string to the end of the Dampit that has the clip on it, and put the whole thing into the guitar through one of the soundholes. The string was loosely tied to the 1st string so I could remove the Dampit easily. It worked out well.

One of those 35mm film containers with a chunk of sponge and 2-4 holes punched in it with a paper-holepunch (You can get star, heart, moon or other shapes).

Dangle it on a rubber band or let go free range inside the bowl. They fit through the larger hole real well.

Did I mention it was cheap?

Use that green florist foam instead of sponge. It is the same stuff they put in all the high dollar humidifiers. For a buck or 2 you can make a dozen or more humidifiers. I like to use a soap dish size container with several holes for my guitar case on my guitars without the larger sound holes like my ES-335. Works great.

". . Use that green florist foam . ."

Word of Caution:

There are TWO types of "green florist foam".

One is basically just a soft green styrofoam that they stick flowers (attached to wooden "picks") into to make things like big funeral hearts and such.

The other (and the one you WANT) has the trade name of "Oasis". Comes in the same basic shape/size as a brick. Cut yourself a piece to size and submerse it in water for about 15-30mins. Holds more water than a sponge. The only problem with it is that the outside will dry and the center will retain the moisture.

If you walk into a local flower shop and ask for a piece of it, they'll probably give it to you gratis . . . .

I kkep mine in the case with a $4 Herco clay humidifier during the heating season. Also helps to keep the fretboard healthy which soundhole humidifiers cannot.
