Location: Phoenix AZ | Just curious, when recording acoustic guitar to microphone approximately where do you place the mic? I know the answer is "experiment until you find the best position ..." But is there a rule of thumb? My only studio knowledgable friend places it about 8 inches from the guitar pointed approximately mid-way between the soundhole and the neck joint (maybe around the 18th fret). This seemed strange to me, I just assumed you would aim it someplace toward the lower bout. |

... that you should actually have two mics. One pointed toward the sound hole area(s) and the other toward the fretboard to pick up the hammer-on/pull-off nuances.... |

You, of all people, should know by now that the best way to mike an Ovation acoustic is to take it to the British Isles, and in an ancient historically correct pub, let Paul T do the job as he is totally committed to profiting from our ignorance and the fact that we as colonies, never learned to recognize the Royalty over there.
Otherwise, just go ahead and play here in the states, some people here know how to wail.
