I have this old breadwinner (i know its an early one due to its side mounted input jack, and blank back plates,) which has been heartily abused. I absolutely love to play it, as it has the greatest neck ever, but it is pretty far from stock. I know there are a lot of guys on this board who refinish and restore these project guitars and so i was wondering: does anyone around here take on jobs like this? I hate feeling like playing this guitar as often as i do is contributing to further damage due to its lack of finish. plus, (yes i can admit this,) i just want the danged thing to look as cool as it possibly can. im just at the hunting around for info stage right now, but prepared to jump should a promising opportunity arise.
thanks!

Location: Tennessee | I sent my solid body Viper to the factory for a refinish and they did a great job. I'm sure they can take care of you. Call the customer service folks and get a quote from them. |

As I type there are two Deacon/BW bodies and a neck in the shop soaking in stripper
There is a Viper on it's way that will soon be in the same condition! All of these have seen better days so I'm not ashamed of taking them down to parade rest. I think I'm going to try Waterlox as a body finish and Pure Tung for the necks. Two of these will be sunburst and one will be whatever makes the mahogany warm and glowing.
I am still in the learning phase and have a long way to go. I am finding I like working over the solids.
Let me post results and you can see if you want to do yours yourself! |
