I'm not sure about the price though, because the guy has put in a Martin thinline mic. How much does this affect the value of the guitar? I'd be greatful for some quick answers, cause I'm buying it as a birthday present... ;-)

I've picked both of mine up for an average of about $210 each... I love the little things... They look good and the sound is good... My first one is my main pick-up and play guitar... They both have the standard surface cracks below the bridge but the bridges are both solid... I've always got my eye out for more to give to people as gifts... They also travel great on airplanes in a gigbag... I've adjusted the action on both of mine and they play great... If it talks to you get it... You won't regret it...

The legends, because of the better grade tops have more sustain... The 1111-6 will ring out... I like having both.... I own different guitars for different sounds... If that's what you want you'll enjoy owning it..... I've also got a 1612 high strung for a different twist... I think having different sounding guitars is like drinking different kinds of wine..

The key difference is the bracing. The 1111 Balladeer has a modified X-bracing and the 1617 Legend has Ovation A-Bracing. To my ears, the A bracing gives a much livlier and brighter tone. The 1111 still sounds good, but compared side by side, the difference is apparent.

I guess that's why I think of the tops on my 1111-6's as being "rigid". It's probably a combination of the two, bracing and grade of top... I think of the legend sound as more complex... (trying to describe different guitar tones is like trying to describe wines).... 1111-6, starts out sharp on the ears with a distinct scent of lyrachord and finishes with a tinge of spruce. 1617, begins with a mellow waft of spruce with a rich balanced complex woody blend of deep tones. (glad I'm not a guy who writes the description for wine adds... I have a general distain for too many adjectives)

So I'm really looking for an Ovation that at least sounds something like the Legend guitar. I thought the 1111 would be a candidate. I also own a GC 1627 (1979). Do you think the 1111 sounds more like the 1627? (which I think sounds kind of thin and got less sustain compared to the Legend) My GC hasn't been played a lot though. /Anna

Actually the 1111 is a great gift. I enjoy my 1112 as much as my 1778. Each instrument has it's own voice. what does this one say to you?

Since my friends husband liked the Legend guitar, I thought I'd try to find something similar to that. /Anna
