The ebony fingerboard on my new L777 has a crack running down the center area from the sound hole end of the board to the 11th fret! It has a "hop-scotch" pattern between frets, but pretty much runs down the middle of the fingerboard...

...so I'll take it in on Saturday to get it sent back for repair.

I have a question for you Ovation experts here: when they fix my neck, would they be willing to put on a neck with a gloss finish? That's what I originally thought I would be getting, and I'd prefer it (unlike some folks) to the satin, which feels kind of rough and unrefined to me.

Even if there's a charge for it, that's okay; would they do it?

And...what do music shops loan to lefty's while their guitars are being repaired under warranty?!

:(

Ouch! That was sinister!

Sorry about the new guitar having a problem like that Left-O. My guess is they will install stock items for stock items as part of the warrantee.

You can email customer service and ask. Most are back from vacations and in a good mood!

Now the question is... do you realize how clever your reply was????

Sinister is Latin for Left Handed!

Was I in an alright frame of mind when I said that? One of the curses of being an abstract sequential thinker is the accumulation of synonyms that sit waiting in your head for the right (left) time to come out.

I does help the songwriting and bathroom poetry flow though!

well personally I've always believed(and heard), that left-handed people, myself included are truly in their right(brain) or mind.(guess I blow the heck out of that theory)

Tho I do play right-handed.

Could explain the confusion.

Sorry to hear about the fingerboard that stinks

God Bless

I have a question now that the left handed comment has been made.

My youngest daugter is a lefty. I am considering giving her a right handed guitar to learn on? Guess it does not matter...... I am just thinking it will be easier for her to buy instruments in the future but I think Lefties are pretty cool otherwise!

She might turn the guitar around and learn like Jimmy Hendrix Right!

Doesn't restringing a righty into a lefty cause problems? Seems I remember somewhere that the internal bracing is set up for guitars to be strung in their original configuration...ie., right handed for right, left handed for left and changing this can cause pressure points in the wrong areas.

Pressure points? The only problem I foresee is reversing the nut, and reversing the bridge (on a non aingled bridge). Shouldn't be too hard.

Do you think they replace the fretboard or just fill the crack? I wonder why it cracked?

They'll have to at least replace the fingerboard; the cracks are already pretty deep and extensive.
