Location: Italy | Hi, I've got a problem with my XLR connection: I have a mixer with the phantom power but when I plug in there's no sound! What happened? I need a special XLR cable or not? With a normal jack the guitar sounds well... what can I do? :confused: |

Location: Phoenix AZ | How old is your guitar? Older ones had a "non standard" xlr wiring and needed a special type of xlr cable. I think it is called "ground to shell" xlr cable. All newer Ovations work fine with a standard xlr mic cable.
Use the "search" function (top right of the screen) and type in XLR CABLE. You will get about 20 posts with good information on this topic.

Location: Asheville, North Carolina | What preamp does it have? OP50?? Since this is a custom model? There is a separate plug from the XLR input...my friends was unplugged into the preamp..look inside make sure it hasn't worked loose. There have also been some related output problems on LX's. Call Customer service they will help! They're great! |

Location: Toronto | I got the 1719-30CM and had to get the ground-to-shell xlr cable - Standard XLR didn't work at all.
I went into my local music store - picked up a cable and their electrician did the soldiering job for me - Free (well - aside from the $27 for the cable!!).

Location: North Carolina | If you have an OP50, you need a dummy plug in the 1/4 inch jack to activate the pre-amp or the g-to-s XLR.

Location: Tennessee | I have xlr outs on a Collectors and a CL12 ... both have Optima preamps. I have never had an issue using a standard xlr mike cable. I can xlr direct into my board OR through the ART tube pre BUT it needs to have phantom power. No phantom power from some source requires the dummy plug in order to turn the preamp on. |

Location: Italy | Thanx to all! I've got an Ovation custom legend C869-CCB LX with both outputs (pre amp OP-PRO): wiht standard jack (1/4")no problems. When I try the XLR with my microphone's cable (I don't know what does "ground to shell" mean!)the guitar doesn't work at all.I have a Mackie with XLR inputs and phantom power 48v. Any ideas? :confused: |

Location: NJ | "ground to shell" means that the cable has to be altered by taking one of the pin connections (I believe it was pin #1, but I may be wrong) and and shorting it to the metal plug casing by soldering a tint bit of wire between the two.
Do a "SEARCH" of "ground to shell XLR" and after a bit of searching you should find the post where (I believe it was) Master Templeman spelled out the procedure . . |

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | If you want to use the on-board battery as power for the XLR, just plug in a 1/4" jack at the same time as the XLR. That activates the battery. I keep a rightangle plug, no wire or anything attached, in my case just in case I want to use it. Otherwise, use the phantom power from the board to power the XLR. I have found that XLR cords don't seem to last very long sticking out of the guitar before they start to get scratchy so I just use the 1/4" jack. |
