My necks on my Strats bug me sometimes and there are 2 places that make aftermarket necks for strats. How do you think an Ovation type neck would be on an electric? If I get some calipers I can measure the thickness of the neck then apply that dimension to a new neck which could be a 10" radius with a soft v profile. I wonder if it would be too fat on an electric?

(I've bought 6-7 Warmoth necks over the years, and been satisfied with every one of them!) One warning (and I'm sure you've thought of this); Strat's are 25 1/2" scale length; most stnadard O's are 25" (I don't know about the electric O's).

Warmoth can probably custom make a neck for you based upon your specs that will fit really nicely onto your Strat. You should give them a call, that's likely your best option. I don't think it's realistic to try and fit a neck like the one on your acoustic O onto a strat ... I can't see being able to transform the O heel into a strat neck block, not to mention issues around K-Bar and scale. You can try to retrofit an Ovation electric neck onto the Strat, but the neck shape is different from the acoustic shaped neck so you might be back at square one from a "feel" perspective. I am in the process of mating an Ovation Viper neck (thanks, paul m!) to a strat-style Celebrity guitar I got off eBay. If all goes well, the StratoViper will be operational by end of the weekend. It is a fairly easy match since both guitars were scale length of 25.5" AND 24 fret necks. BUT ... the Viper neck would not have been easy adapted to a Fender Strat (I have an '80s US one) for a couple of reasons ... 1) the Viper neck is 24 fret not 21 so bridge placement is an issue. If your Strat is trem equipped, you're pretty screwed ... the saddles don't realistically adjust that far, and even if you have a hard tail, the bridge pickup may get in the way when you move the hard tail forward; 2) the neck block of the Viper and that of a standard Strat are different ... the Ovation is a lot shallower so you've have to add to either the cavity or the neck block.

The maple neck (just sold to Tony C) I rescued from eBay was the best neck I have ever handled. Then strip it, put in abalone inlays and re-coat it in Tung Oil!

I know that with heat and moisture fingerboards on "other brands" can be removed. Here is the reason that I am asking, I traded for a UKII with the headstock broken off. I bought a new neck from miles and am in the process of finishing it. It may be possible to have this broken neck repaired, but if not, I thought one of the members here that likes to work on, repair, refinish, etc. might be able to use the fingerboard on a project. Anyone tried this? noel

As far as neck shape Warmoth's boat neck is pretty close to the Ovation shape that I always liked. I've gotten several Warmoth necks and they're great. I go 1 3/4 fat back or boat back.

I guess that explains it. But I'm curious did they use the epoxy on the 1976 Country Artist? Or has it always been that way?

So if I were to measure the thickness, get a soft v and a 10" radius would it be that much of a difference in feel because of the different scale lengths?
