Location: South Portland, ME | I replaced a Martin/Sigma last year with a Korean made Celebrity Deluxe (2002 limited Edition. I played out all spring and summer in a 4 piece group, (myself, a Taylor, bass and Rastifarian percussionist)and the Celebrity exceeded all my expectations. We play lots of Dead, Dylan, Van Morrison, etc and running it through a sound board with the OP 30, the Ovation really stood out. Are the CT made guitars "that" much better?? If so, how? I have 2 small kids and funds for new toys are notoriously tight.
BTW, great board!! I'll be back! |

Location: Waurika OK | Welcome to the board, fine place to get lots of info and humor and .....
Most here will encourage you to go US made, in the long run you will be better satisfied. If you don't have to have new, there are many great used O's availabe, with just a little patience you can have a great one.
All mine are old, 79 Legend; 81 Classical, and a UKII.

Location: Tennessee | Let me add my welcome! By the way, your Korean axe is a very good one ... it rivals US made guitars. Your guitar has a AA Sitka Spruce top (same spec as the US made Legend), OP30 preamp (the same thats on many US models) and the bowls are all made in the US. You could do a lot worse with a lot of very expensive name brand guitars. Enjoy what you have, and once the GAS sets in you'll end up with a lot more Ovations to compare your CP2002 to. :) |

Welcome, I have been playing for over 50 years and have to agree with Stonebobo when it comes to playing what you can afford. I had to buy all the instruments and equipment for a band in CA in the 70's that my two sons played in while they were teen agers. I bought many Japanese instruments, the Korea of the time, and we did fine. As we get older and more richer, we have considered American guitars.

Location: Phoenix AZ | I would not get so hung up on where it's made. It's just a matter of what you get vs. what you pay. This has to be balanced with what your priorities are and how fat your wallet is. The difference between a celebrity model and a lower end US model is no different than between the lower end US model and an upper end US model. If you compare the the Celebrity deluxe and the Elite, since they look similar, there are certainly aspects to the Elite in terms of quality of materials, components, assembly, fit and finish etc. that will impress many people vs. the Celebrity. But to others these differences may be of no tangible value and not worth the extra money. The nice thing about Ovation is that it has no "name" value what so ever. Nobody ever pays a premium for an Ovation just because of the name (unlike Martin, Gibson, Taylor, etc.). With Ovation you get exactly what you pay for at every price point in the line - extending from Applause, celebrity, USA and Adamas. If you are happy with your guitar and can't see value in upgrading to a US model, then there is absolutely no reason to do it. |
