I have an Adamas 597 CVT in Colbalt Blue, and i really like the guitar EXCEPT for those cheesy epaulets. They are starting to curl slightly at the edges and I have already had to re-glue a couple of sections that lifted up.

My question is; (1) is it possible to remove them? Would the top look decent after I cleaned up the glue residue or do you think it would be scarred? Someone on the forum has a SMT Adamas with no epaulets, just graphite. What process would you use to remove them?

(2) Could I replace them with some of the older thicker carved-style epaulets? I think this guitar would look sweet with solid dark color epaulets like say walnut, ebony, or rosewood. Would Ovation sell me just the epaulets and are they available in styles other than the cheesy thin crappy things that go on everything?

Thanks for your help

Don't get me started on "newer" epaulets . . .

You don't want thicker, adds weight to the top, can dampen the sound. Ask Budny or Keller about removal, I'm not sure how easy that would be. Probably like all these things, tha part that's lifting would be easy and the center where all the glue is would be a complete bear. Ask the factory.

What about replacing them with nicer epaulets? Is this do-able?

Well, you could totally muck it up by putting some of those Mellisa E genuine faux plasti-pearloid epaulettes on there.

Brian: Why can't you send it to the factory for repair?
