Location: N W Ohio | Got my new to me 79 1117 on Friday.(bought on Ebay). It was a little rougher then the description but mostly what appeared to be years in Grandma's attic. Spent most of Saturday morning cleaning a lot of years of neglect off of her. As they say she cleaned up pretty well. The top has a minor ripple,there is a crack from the soundhole to the bridge, and the bridge is lifting slightly. The flaws are not major repairs which is good. I think the strings that were on it were the originals, they were the worst I've ever seen including some pawn shop wonders.New strings and the major cleaning,she plays and sounds unbelieveable. I have been sitting here for an hour A-B-ing(not a word but you know what I mean)her with my D28. She isn't the same sound which I never would have expected, but my new 1117 will deffinitely hold it's own with anything out there and blow away most. I'm glad I rediscovered Ovation,but now how do I stop the buying urges? |

You look at your Legend as you should. It doesn't sound like a D28, but it's wonderful in it's own way. If you want a real thrill, have a friend play it while you listen from across the room. I was absolutely blown away by somebody else playing my 68 Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeer. I thought it sounded good when I played it, but it was great hearing somebody else play it (Don't anybody make comments on my skill!).

Location: N W Ohio | OK, update with my newest family member. The 1117 was a real surprise as far as overall tone and sound, I'm a happy camper. The problem? After what appeared to be many years in Grandma's attic(or basement or wherever) it smells nasty. Any suggestions on making her a rose to the nose again? |

Location: Upper Left USA | If its the fiberglass bowl smell - binary resin - air it out for a week or so. You can give it a wipe down with a damp cloth with mild detergent if you wish.
If its the case - cat territorial marker, etc. - wipe it down with distilled vinegar and warm water with light detergent. Air dry. |

Location: N W Ohio | The case isn't bad. I sprayed it with the stuff that my wife uses to make dog errors go away. The guitar smells like a dirty,damp,old basement or attic.It was real dirty like as in had been setting in one of the previously mentioned places for a long time. I cleaned the exterior and wiped down the interior with first a sweeper to rid it of the "chunks", then with a damp cloth and whatever the soap was. It's been sitting on a stand out of the case now for several days and still smells. My wife thinks it needs to be outside for a while kinda like when the dog gets wet. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Cut a panty hose off at the knee and fill part of it with ceder chips and tie the end off. Throw this inside the guitar for a while.
There are of course those that like that "vintage" mold musty smell. Takes years to get it. |

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Congrats on the 1117. I have a 1981 1117. Richest/deepest guitar I've ever heard. Try some medium EXP's on her. She'll vibrate the wifes dishes off the counter!
