Joined: June 2004 Posts: 271 Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida | There's a article, titled "Electric Shock" about the developement of Electrified Acoustics, and has a picture of a Glen Cambell Artist guitar, on the lead page, with some cool history... The article claims Glen Campbell, borrowed Jerry Reed's newly electrified Baldwin... to play on the Tonight Show... Supposedly Kaman got word of the show and was pissed off at Campbell, for playing another brand of guitar, while he was under endorsement from Ovation... The article goes on to claim, Charles Kaman responded by ordering Ovation's engineers to create a piezo pickup system similar to the one in Reed's Baldwin... Is this how the the big 'O" became "plugged in..." !!! Another artcle in this issue of ACOUSTIC GUITAR World Magazine has Paul McCartney, on p.30, playing a 12 string, OVATION, from the 70's. The article speaks of Paul's unique picking style, how he played Blackbird, Yestreday and others... The article includes guitar tabs. On the ED Sulivan show Paul played a converted, right handed, 1964 Epiphone, upside down, with the pic gaurd above the sound hole... Seems he played that guitar for some time with the saddle angled and intonated for right handers!!! Until it was modified a while later, with the saddle angled the other way!!! Paul claims he wasn't a "Gear Head or too technical"... GO FIGURE!!! Truth or Fiction ??? Comments... And there is yet another article, on the 30th Anniversary Custom Legend 1719-30CM model that is quite compilmentary... And still another article speaking of her Custom Adamas, "...by far the best guitar for what I do..." AB

I got the impression he was ticked off at the company for not being more on top of things. I could be wrong but I don't believe GC ever officially signed an endorsement agreement, did he? I think with he and Charlie it was more of a gentlemen's agreement. Again, I could very well be wrong... Jeff

I suspect that cwk1 was not happy with either Glen OR the company people over that occurrance!!!! As far as the agreement being only a "gentleman's" or more formal, maybe someone here has more knowledge on that.... Roger

So they got some of the baldwin guitars and took the pickup off and put it on an Ovation and got that to Glen and that put the fire out. Then they went on to develope the better pickup and the rest is, as they say, history.... Glen did have a signed endorsement but it was pretty loose and tied into the 1127/1627 model.
