I’m a newbie here, just having discovered this site. It so happens that I own (and am getting ready to sell) an Adamas Wide-Neck, but I lack certain important information about it. I found a site that contains a matrix of information dating Ovation (including Adamas) models. The columns contained the production year, and the rows defined the models in question. According to this matrix, the Adamas Wide-Necks were only produced in 1984 and 85, with 1995 instruments produced each of those two years – but I’ve seen references to this model being produced in the latter 70’s. Can anyone shed light on this question?

As far as my instrument is concerned, there are two numbers printed on the internal label that are laid out perpendicular to each other. The first is “0173-95” while the other (which I suspect is the model number with perhaps the last digit of the year it was produced) is “1689-8” which might mean a model # 1689 made in 1978. Can anyone verify this conclusion? It is also personally signed by Bill Kaman (although he may have signed them all).

Lastly, I have little idea what to ask for this guitar. I saw in one of the other posts here that a Wide-Neck sold on eBay for around $3000.00. I was only hoping to get about half of this. My instrument is a blue reverse-sunburst. It is all original and fully functional. The only problem is some flaking away of the very top finish around the wood framing of the sound holes, which the guitar techs at Elderly Instruments (about 1.5 hours from my home) assured me was no threat to the structural integrity of the instrument. Any rough guesses as to what this guitar may be worth? I can send some jpg’s of it to anyone interested.

Your guitar is the 173rd Adamas made. The body has a fundamental frequence of 95. It probably was made in 1978. The model number is 1689 and it is blue -8. The neck is 1 7/8 wide rather than 1 11/16 which would be the 1687. It has the two knob electronics.

I'll give you $1000 for it because it has that guy's signature in it and really depresses the value.

Actually someone from here will probably give you a serious offer. The flaking of the paint around the sound holes is not a big deal, happens alot to this vintage Adamas.
