Location: NC | Okay...............somehow got suckered into playing some X-Mas songs at my wife's X-Mas party at the hospital. I have mastered about 6 songs and was wondering if anyone else has been sucked by a spouse to do the same?
Oh don't get me wrong............can't wait to show off the new Elite LX and look cool!
As stated in an earlier post........My sanity is only surpassed by my madness. I need another "O"! :D |

Location: Midland, MI | No, my wife knows better. One of the guys I work with plays cello, his wife plays piano (she outranks me...10 years to 5 in the forced lessons department) and they wanted a guitarist to play for some thing or other the hospital is doing. I politely declined as I'm not really comfortable even playing during my lessons, let alone in public.
Good luck with the party and, more importantly, getting that 'new O'. :) |

I have been trying to break out of that performance anxiety shell (thats guitar performance). To quote Captain Kirk, "We learn by doing." |

I find that playing in church gives me a REALLY forgiving audience with friendly ears and a bit of a "deadline" to allow me to keep focused. I played back-bedroom guitar for countless years and eventually ended up not playing :( after a while. I found that I would plateau and then stagnate. I think that, at least for me, the social dynamics of playing with/for others  offers very tangible benefits that would not occur otherwise. My music selections are not always my choice and that is really healthy (just how many measures of Heartbreak Hotel does anyone really need to hear in their lifetime). At least when others (read pastor or companions) make the selections, I am forced to attempt, with widely varying degrees of success, many styles. Besides after you've done it a few times and anxiety attacks subside to manageable tics and head jukes, the entertainment that playing for an audience provides (goes both ways, you get what you give) is worth the trip.
Just one little fish in a pretty small pond. YMMV |

I have some old and new Xmas tunes if someone needs cheat sheets or music. there is a lot of Tab and lyric sheets out there on the dubya-dubya-dubya as well.
Expand your world. The best part of playing for me is the sharing with others, including here! |
