Has anyone had the chance to try a scalloped fretboard? If so, what's your opinion? I'm curious, and would like to try one, but I never see one in any of the local music stores.

Bill;
Didn't you once make a guitar with a scalloped fretboard for some Middle-Eastern musician?? . .

I actually got to try a fender strat version about a month ago. I was surprised how little difference it felt to me than a regular fretboard.

Maybe if I was a shredder, the bends, hammer-ons, etc., would be noticeable smoother and faster but for a ham fisted old dude like me, I could not see what all the fuss was about.

There was one made for a guy, Ricky something or other. Actually he scappoled it, it was a nice Adamas 1 before that. There may have been a few others but I don't remember them. It was a big fad for a few months when McLaughlin had one.

Ricky rey?

one of the first times I ever came to the factory one of his guitars was there for eh...repair.

I have a tele style guitar with a scalloped fingerboard and a hipshot b bender.

shred country LOL

the scalloped board were interesting to shred guitar players who think they can play with a lighter touch. what I found is that they seems to be VERY expressive. It does take some getting used to. If you have a death grip on the neck it is not for you. you need to merely touch the strings to the frets

That was the guy. Frankly I want to feel some wood under the string.

I've managed to "naturally" scallop a couple of fretboards ... frankly, all it does for me is screw up the intonation ... given my death grip on the neck. :)

Yeronner, cwk2 gave a clue as to what a scalloped fretboard is. Basically the fretboard is "scooped out" (made concave) between frets, so, when you press down on a string, you don't push the string against the fretboard; the string makes contact with the fret only (sort of like a guitar version of a sitar).

I don't think I'd like a scalloped fretboard. I like to feel wood under my fingers -- Ebony or maple as a matter of fact.
