I tried those coated stings like the original D'Addario EXP16 (.012-.053). My dealer favours the Elixir Nanoweb light (.012-.053). Both not bad, but the coat is very slippery, I guess. I hardly became used to them. They also don't last the double time. Hence, they are not realy worth the doubled price. Well, now I use uncoated Adamas 1818 (.012-.053), change them every 4-6 weeks. And recently I got an extra pack of Martin Phosphor Bronze (.012-.053) from my dealer. Im still not shure what strings I like most. For my old Martin copy I needed more than a year to find the right strings. And finaly I came back to Martin Phosphor Bronze (.012-.053) already uesed by the dealer. :p

I'm having some buzzing on the Elite, though, so I think I may need to either shim up the bridge or look at neck relief. Project Viper is wearing D'Addario XL 10s at the moment, but this weekend will be sporting a new set of pure nickle 10s. Peavey Stratocopy has D'addario XL 9s (oldest son likes playing on spaghetti I guess) and the Cropper has whatever they put on at the factor five years ago. ;)

The D'Adds are consistent, but I really can't tell the difference between them and the Adamas strings except for the colored balls. I got some Martin SP's that are playing out very nicely. The ones that I like a LOT right now are the Dean Markley Alchemy strings. Very nice tone, cool looking, and supposed to last as long as the coated strings. I also picked up some webstrings.com sets but ran out of guitars so the evaluation has to wait. For my EA68 Viper, I put a set of DR Zebras on, which have alternating phosphor-bronze and nickel windings on the wound strings. I haven't put any on a straight acoustic, but it might be fun just for an alternate tone for a while. Cruster ... the Hamer and the 1271 Viper are both sporting DR Pure Blues (pure nickel) and man ... you'll never go back to anything else.

I REALLY like the Alchemys in gold phos. Great bright sound, and they last and last and last. Really good tactile feel in a coated string and they are beautifully colored too.

I don't notice any great increase in life on them, maybe another week or two, but the sound stays very consistent. These will also corrode very quickly, so put some fast fret or other string lube on them when they are new. I use the "TLT" gage. To me, these seem comparable to the Adamas 1818's.
